On November 28th, American national Philipe Chiliade, who lives in South Africa, arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi after being invited by his Facebook friends.
However, the invitation turned out to be a ruse as Chiliade was abducted by the three suspects and taken to their rented room in Pipeline Estate where he was assaulted and robbed.
According to Nairobi News, Chiliade told police that he was picked up at JKIA by his Facebook friends using a taxi and taken to their house.
Chiliade, who is nursing injuries from the beating, reported that the suspects later invited a relative, Fredrick Muendo Mutua, to prepare a meal for him and escort him to the airport after they escaped with an unknown amount of money in US Dollars, two mobile phones, and a Visa card.
Chiliade raised alarm while Mutua was taking him to JKIA, leading to Mutua being arrested by members of the public.
On Monday, police obtained orders from Makadara Law Courts to detain Mutua for five days pending completion of investigations into the incident.
The search for the three suspects is ongoing.
