As of December 4, 2019, the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in the Southern, Central, and Western parts of the country, which is expected to continue throughout the month.

The rainfall is expected to intensify from Wednesday through to Friday, with a decrease likely on Saturday.

Residents in Nairobi, Narok, Kajiado, Bomet, Kericho, Nakuru, Migori, Nyamira, Kisii, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, West Pokot, Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, Bungoma, Kakamega, and Elgeyo Marakwet are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods and take necessary precautions.

People in landslide-prone areas, especially over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mount Kenya, and other hilly areas in the Western region, have been put on high alert.

According to David Gikungu, a deputy director at KMD, "The rainfall is expected to continue throughout the month of December with occasional breaks. Flooding and landslides may therefore be triggered by any substantial amount of rainfall in low-lying areas as well as over hilly grounds."
