Published on December 4, 2019, chaos erupted in an Inua Mama rally in Wajir town after a teargas canister exploded, throwing the meeting into disarray.

Several people sustained minor injuries as they scampered for safety after a teargas canister hurled near the dais at Qorahay grounds went off.

Wajir County Police Commander Stephen Ng'etich said one suspect had been arrested, and a hunt for others continued.

Now, women legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto are demanding the arrest of Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, who they claim is behind the chaos.

The legislators, led by Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru, say officials in Gedi's office, including her driver, were allegedly spotted at the function.

'We are demanding the arrest of one Fatuma Gedi… We know she is behind what happened in Wajir,' said Waruguru.

They have also accused Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i of turning a blind eye to the Wajir chaos.
