On a day filled with joy and celebration, three students stood out from the crowd at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology's (JKUAT) 34th graduation ceremony held on November 29th, 2019 in Juja. Kevin Otieno Onyango, Martin Mumo, and Wainaina Nelius Wanjiru, all recipients of the Co-op Bank Foundation scholarship, have had a long journey infused with grit, determination, and focus.
The Co-op Bank Foundation has been providing full secondary and university education scholarships to over 7,000 gifted but needy students from all regions of Kenya since 2007. The scholarship program starts from secondary school level and has grown from 30 students per region to 60 students per region and 5 students per county in Kenya.
The University Scholarship and Vocational Internship programme, rolled out in 2011, has been a game-changer for many students. It's renewable for up to 4-5 years of undergraduate study, depending on the course, and covers tuition, meals, and accommodation. Currently, 84 students are on this scholarship.
Congratulations to Onyango, Mumo, and Wanjiru on their graduation. May they continue to positively impact and empower the communities around them.
