The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has taken a significant step in its efforts to enhance tax compliance and tackle graft by appointing a new commissioner for intelligence and strategic operations.

Dr Terra Saidimu Leseeto, a seasoned KRA official with over 15 years of experience, has been appointed to the position, effective December 2, 2019. The appointment was announced in a memo to staff by Commissioner General Githii Mburu on December 3, 2019.

According to Mburu, Dr Leseeto brings a wealth of experience and leadership skills to the role, having served in various positions within the Authority since 2004. He has been instrumental in the development and implementation of framework policies and strategies in the areas of investigation and intelligence, and has played a key role in the success of high-impact investigations and intelligence operations.

Dr Leseeto's appointment comes at a critical time for the Authority, which has faced criticism for failing to meet its revenue projections and allegations of graft. The Authority has now established a full-fledged unit to investigate tax evasion and has embarked on an aggressive tax compliance strategy to ensure that all eligible taxpayers pay their fair share of taxes.

Since taking office in June 2019, Commissioner General Mburu has led the Authority in a multi-dimensional strategy to enhance compliance among various taxpayers, resulting in tax evaders being arraigned.
