Kenya Roads Board CEO in Court Over Air Pollution Charges ¶
Published on December 3, 2019
Eng. Jacob Ruwa, the Executive Director of the Kenya Roads Board, and his wife are facing air pollution charges in a Mombasa court. The couple is accused of committing the offense of air pollution contrary to Section 78(2) of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA).
The case was brought to court by Wangari Ndegwa, a county employee who reported the matter to the Mombasa county public health department. According to Ndegwa's statement, the KRB CEO recently bought a plot of land in Nyali, where his wife is rearing two cows in the residential compound.
Ndegwa, who is asthmatic, claims that the presence of the cows has affected her health detrimentally due to the air pollution emitted from the cow dung smell.
However, the engineer's wife denied the charges.
The case is scheduled for hearing on March 4, 2020.
