On December 3, 2019, the inaugural Joe Kadenge Memorial Youth Tournament was scheduled to take place in Nairobi, commemorating the late football legend's contribution to the game.
Organized by Kadenge's friends, former players, coaches, and family members, the tournament aimed to promote youth football and provide a platform for young players to showcase their skills.
According to Tournament Chairman Athanus Obango, a total of 32 teams, divided into Under-14 and Under-16 boys and girls categories, were set to participate in the two-day event at Highway Secondary School in South B.
Obango emphasized that the tournament was a drug-free event, and the consumption of alcohol or any form of drug was strictly prohibited.
Nairobi County Sports Management Board Chairman Hashim Kamau pledged the county's support, stating that they would provide an ambulance during the tournament.
The tournament idea was first conceived in 2016 by Obango and Charles Nzau 'Tigana' among other friends of the late legend.
