On December 3, 2019, Seneta Samson Cherargei was taken into custody by DCI officers for allegedly making hate speech.
According to the officers, Cherargei allegedly made the remarks on August 17, 2019, at a school in Kilibwoni.
Cherargei is expected to appear in court to face charges of hate speech and incitement.
He allegedly warned critics that they would face severe consequences, saying, “Sisi kama wafuasi wa Naibu Rais hatutakimya huku mkimtusi kila mara bila sababu. Tunawajua na tutapambana nanyi vikali wakati ukifika.”
Cherargei's arrest comes as the country continues to grapple with issues of hate speech and incitement.
