On December 3, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha addressed concerns from parents who claimed their children had missed placements in their schools of choice.
Magoha maintained that the selection process was thorough and all students' choices were put into consideration.
He stated, 'They were placed in their first choices and the schools they are crying foul about were not number one choice you can go and cross-check our data, it's available.'
Reports had earlier indicated that 30,000 candidates were placed in schools they had not chosen due to unavailability of vacancies in home counties.
Patricia Lelegwe from Laikipia's Rumuruti area alleged that her daughter, Abigael Naseiyan, was admitted to a school she never applied for.
Abigael scored 384 marks in the KCPE exams and had reportedly indicated Pangani Girls as her school of choice but was admitted at Kisima Girls Secondary.
Magoha urged parents with similar complaints to countercheck their children's choices.
33,009 candidates were placed in national schools, 184,816 in extra-county schools, 188,454 in county schools, and the majority of 669,145 in sub-county schools.
Candidates joining county and sub-county schools will know the schools they will join from Tuesday, December 10, 2019.
