December 3, 2019, Arsenal's search for a new manager is underway, with a 12-man shortlist of potential candidates.

The list includes Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, ex-Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Manchester City coach Mikel Arteta, among others.

However, not all of these candidates are seen as leading contenders, with Wolves manager Nuno and ex-Juventus boss Max Allegri reportedly not in the running.

One of the main challenges facing Arsenal is convincing Rodgers to leave Leicester, as he has a buy-out clause in his contract.

Former chief executive Ivan Gazidis championed Arteta in 2018, and those who opposed him are still at the club, which may make it difficult for him to secure the job.

Arsenal hope to narrow down the list to four or five candidates within the week, with technical director Edu, head of football Raul Sanllehi, managing director Vinai Venkatesham, and contracts negotiator Huss Fahmy making up the panel.

Edu's role will be crucial in defining the type of manager Arsenal want and getting their man.

The recommendations of the panel will then be taken to owner Stan Kroenke and his son Josh, an Arsenal director, who will rubber stamp the appointment.

Interim manager Freddie Ljungberg, who took charge of the Gunners' 2-2 draw with Norwich on Sunday, is unlikely to be considered for the permanent role due to his lack of experience.
