On November 1, 2019, a 12-year-old girl from Migori County suffered a traumatic ordeal at the hands of a police officer who allegedly defiled her.

The victim, who lives with her paternal grandmother after her parents separated, was reportedly washing dishes when the suspect attacked her.

According to Susan Mohabe, the Nyamosense/Komosko Member of County Assembly, efforts to get justice have been futile since some police officers in Kuria West allegedly protected the suspect.

“Why was the girl detained for six days at Isebania Police Station after the ordeal? This was a ploy to interfere with evidence which would be crucial for the cases in court,” Mohabe claimed.

However, Kuria West OCPD Bernard Muriuki stated that attempts to take the suspect to Kehancha Law Courts on November 5 and 19 failed due to a letter from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) citing lack of evidence to incriminate the suspect.

Despite this setback, Muriuki assured residents that officers would pursue the case and ensure justice is served.
