December 2, 2019, marked a significant day for Nairobi's cycling community, as Governor Mike Sonko and Woman Representative Esther Passaris joined forces to promote non-motorized transport in the city.
The event, which was attended by officials from the United Nations and other diplomats, aimed to reduce Nairobi's carbon footprint by promoting cycling and walking.
Passaris took to Twitter to express her delight at Sonko's participation in the event, saying, 'Glad to see @MikeSonko join the cycling band-wagon! Limited understanding of NMT among Government Officials is the reason behind poor infrastructure for walking & cycling. Public officials need to experience 1st-hand challenges of walking and cycling to plan & invest accordingly.'
Passaris and Sonko's past relationship has been tumultuous, with the two leaders engaging in a public spat in June 2019. Sonko had accused Passaris of making false claims about him, including allegations that she had been demanding money from him.
However, it appears that the two leaders have put their differences behind them, with Passaris sharing pictures of herself and Sonko together on social media.
