Heavy rains pounded the area of Kilimambogo, Kiambu on Friday, leaving a fisherman, Vincent Musila, trapped at 14 Falls.

According to residents, Vincent was fishing at night when the heavy downpour swept him away, leaving him stranded with no shelter.

His canoe, which was his source of shelter, was also swept away by the raging waters.

Residents of Kilimambogo tried to save him but the heavy downpour hampered their efforts.

Area MCA Joachim Mwangi Njama came to the fisherman's rescue by reaching out to Interior Security Minister Fred Matiang'i, who deployed a police chopper to rescue Vincent.

As the helicopter descended towards where he was, residents could be heard cheering and applauding police officers.

After being brought to safety, Vincent said, "Sitawahi rudia kuenda kwa mto tena usiku hata kwa sasa nimeokoka." (I will never go back to the river at night again, I am safe now.)
