Published on December 3, 2019, Harambee Stars defender Brian Bwire has been ruled out of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Uganda due to a right hip injury.

Western Stima goalkeeper Samuel Odhiambo has been drafted into the Stars squad as a replacement, and he is eager to make the most of the opportunity.

“Life is about taking chances when they come your way,” Odhiambo explained, highlighting his determination to seize the chance.

Although Ulinzi Stars keeper Timothy Odhiambo is expected to be coach Francis Kimanzi’s first-choice goalkeeper, Samuel Odhiambo is confident that he can make a strong case for himself.

“We are the tournament defending champions, and so we have set high standards for ourselves,” Odhiambo said, emphasizing the team’s expectations.

Stars squad, mainly consisting of locally-based players, reported to camp at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Monday evening.

Kenya is pooled in Group C alongside Tanzania, Djibouti, and Zanzibar, with the top two teams in each group, as well as the two best third place finishers from three groups, proceeding to the tournament’s quarter-final.

The tournament winners will take home Sh3 million in prize money.
