Published on December 3, 2019, a Japanese man has been arrested for his unusual behavior of making 24,000 phone calls to a customer service company.

Akitoshi Okamoto, a 71-year-old Japanese pensioner, was taken into custody after making hundreds of toll-free calls over eight days to the customer service section of major telephone operator KDDI.

Okamoto demanded that KDDI staff come to him to apologize for violating his contract and repeatedly hung up his calls immediately after placing them, according to a police spokesman.

He made thousands of additional calls from public payphones to express his dissatisfaction with the company and insult customer service staff.

Okamoto has been arrested on suspicion of fraudulent obstruction of business.

Japan is facing an increasing number of social problems caused by its rapidly aging population.
