On November 28, 2019, Philipe Chiliade, an American national living in South Africa, traveled to Kenya on the invitation of his Facebook friends. However, his visit turned into a nightmare when he was kidnapped at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) by three men.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, who are still at large, hoodwinked Chiliade into traveling to Nairobi from South Africa. They then kidnapped him at JKIA and took him to a rented room in Pipeline Estate in Embakasi, where they assaulted and robbed him.

Chiliade was later forced to call his relative, Fredrick Muendo Mutua, to cook for him and escort him back to JKIA. However, Chiliade raised the alarm while Mutua was escorting him back to the airport, and Mutua was arrested by members of the public.

Inspector Anderson Miriti of Embakasi DCI's offices obtained orders to detain Mutua for five days to assist in investigations, including searching for the three suspects. Mutua will be held until Monday next week.

Investigators are gathering evidence from JKIA and Kithyoko in Machakos County, where the other suspects are believed to be hiding the loot.
