Published on December 3, 2019, a shocking revelation emerged about the poor conditions that teachers marking the 2019 KCSE exams at Machakos High School were living under.

As seen in the images, the exam markers were protesting over the poor working conditions, with some demanding Sh. 68 for every paper marked, a significant increase from the Sh. 48 they were receiving.

Following the protests, Kuppet Sec-Gen Akelo Misori announced that 700 KCSE exam markers at Machakos High had been ordered to leave.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by exam markers in Kenya, who often work under difficult conditions for low pay.
