Published on December 3, 2019, the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) is heating up with Tusker and Kakamega Homeboyz emerging as top contenders to challenge defending champions Gor Mahia for the title.
With 11 rounds of matches played, the league standings show Gor Mahia in the lead, followed closely by Tusker and Homeboyz. However, at the wrong end of the table, Chemelil Sugar, Kisumu AllStars, Kariobangi Sharks, and Bandari are struggling to stay afloat and may face relegation to the Betika Super League next season.
On a weekend marked by heavy rain, Tusker overcame Bandari 1-0 on a waterlogged pitch at Ruaraka Sports Ground, taking over second position in the league standings.
Tusker coach Robert Matano praised his team's resilience, saying, "We have managed a very good result under the circumstances because we had to fight very hard to control the football and string passes but I have not started thinking of winning the league yet."
Homeboyz and Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) also recorded impressive wins, with Homeboyz beating Mathare 3-1 to move to third position and KCB hammering Kariobangi Sharks 5-2 to take up fourth place.
