Kenya News: Nairobi County Raises Parking Fees, Students Chosen for Secondary School

Kenyan newspapers on Monday, December 3, 2019, reported on a school in Baringo County where all applicants were selected to join national secondary schools.

Little Friend Primary School in the small county of Mogotio had registered 31 applicants for KCPE, with 27 of them scoring 400 marks and above.

The top-scoring student, who scored 426 marks, has been selected to join Kenya High Secondary School.

David Kigen, the school's principal, attributed the students' success to their hard work, dedication, and teamwork.

On Monday, December 3, 2019, The Standard newspaper reported on a school in Baringo County where all applicants were selected to join national secondary schools.

The Nairobi County government has allowed senior teachers to increase their salaries to fund development projects.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said the funds would help improve the country's infrastructure, which has been affected by 100% of the law.

Senior teachers have been demanding a salary increase, claiming that the government is not providing enough funds.

However, some teachers may use this opportunity to force parents to pay more fees.

On Monday, December 3, 2019, The Star newspaper reported on a 19-year-old man who was arrested on Sunday, December 2, for allegedly planning terrorist attacks against the Salvation Army church in Nairobi's Jogoo Road.

Trevor Ndigwa was found with a video that showed him having ties with a terrorist group.

However, Ndigwa denied the allegations and is currently being held in custody after being granted bail.

On Monday, December 3, 2019, Taifa Leo newspaper reported on the disappointment of thousands of KCPE candidates who failed to secure a place in their dream secondary schools.

Only 33,000 out of 33,000 students who scored the required marks were selected to join national secondary schools.

For example, Pangani Girls High School had 110,835 applicants, but only 336 students were selected, while Alliance Girls High School had 92,067 applicants and selected 384 students.

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said the selection process was transparent and took into account the students' preferences.

On Monday, December 3, 2019, People Daily newspaper reported on the Kirinyaga County government's proposal to build a women's prison in the county to reduce the transportation of prisoners to Embu Prison.

A report submitted to the county government showed that 90% of prisoners in Embu Prison are from Kirinyaga County.

Justice Lucy Gitari of Kerugoya said police officers are struggling to transport prisoners from Embu and then return them.
