Heavy Rains to Continue Pounding Nairobi and Environs

Published on December 3, 2019

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that heavy rains will continue to pound Nairobi and its environs throughout the week.

Residents in Nairobi and surrounding areas are advised to be on the lookout for potential floods and avoid driving through or walking in moving water.

Other areas expected to be affected include the South and Central Rift, Nyanza, Southeast lowlands, and Central regions.

Residents in these areas have been warned to avoid open fields and not to shelter under trees and near grilled windows to minimize exposure to lightning strikes.

People living in landslide-prone areas, especially over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mount Kenya, and other hilly areas, have been put on high alert.

The heavy rainfall has led to overflowing in most rivers, with the ground already saturated with water.

As a result, flooding and landslides may be triggered by any substantial amount of rainfall in low-lying and hilly areas.
