On Monday evening, President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted King Abdile Wabar Abdi, the Ethiopian-based traditional leader of the Degodia community, at State House, Nairobi. The meeting aimed to foster peace and unity in the region.
President Kenyatta stressed that colonial boundaries should not be allowed to divide people, saying that the region can achieve faster development if its people work together in peace and harmony.
"We need to live together as brothers and sisters and respect all communities in the region," the President said.
King Abdi delivered a message of peace and unity to the President, accompanied by a delegation of members of the Degodia community from Kenya and Ethiopia.
President Kenyatta commended King Abdi for spearheading peace, unity, and understanding in the region and bestowed upon him the Elder of Burning Spear (EBS) award, one of the highest national honours.
The meeting was attended by Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi, former Governor Ahmed Abdullahi, and several MPs from Wajir and Mandera counties, as well as the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua and the Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya Meles Alem Tikea.
