Kenyan footballer Jentrix Shikangwa, a forward for Harambee Starlets and Vihiga Queens, has made a name for herself in the sports world. Born in 2002, Shikangwa has been nominated for the 2019 Sports Personality of the Year Award (SOYA) in the Most Promising girl category.
On December 2, 2019, the 17-year-old emerged as the top scorer at the Cecafa women tournament with an impressive 10 goals, helping Starlets dethrone Tanzania to lift their first-ever regional title.
Shikangwa's impressive performance did not go unnoticed, as she also propelled Starlets to the penultimate round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers. Furthermore, she helped Vihiga Queens clinch the Women Premier League (WPL) title after the Queens amassed 70 points.
Shikangwa will, however, face stiff competition for the award from other talented young athletes, including budding golfer Belinda Wanjiru Macharia and Africa Under-20 400m champion Mary Moraa.
