Manchester United's Harry Maguire is growing increasingly frustrated with the team's porous defense, which has cost them crucial points in consecutive matches.
On Sunday, United led Aston Villa 2-1 midway through the second half at Old Trafford before a Tyrone Mings equaliser forced them to share the points in a 2-2 draw.
The draw left United in ninth place in the Premier League with 18 points from 14 matches, their worst return at a similar stage since 1988/89.
Maguire's concerns are not new, as the team also conceded a late goal in the previous week's 3-3 draw against Sheffield United after storming back from 2-0 down to lead 3-2.
"We got ourselves in a great position in the second half and again conceded a sloppy goal really," Maguire told MUTV.
"As a defender especially, it's frustrating. We haven't really conceded many chances or goals prior to the last two games and then we've conceded five," he added.
Jose Mourinho returns to Old Trafford for the first time since his sacking a year ago with a resurgent Tottenham side on Wednesday, and Maguire believes the quick turnaround from Sunday to Wednesday could help United after their recent disappointments.
"It's perfect. When you don't win any football match you want a game as soon as possible to put things right," he said.
"And there's no better way than to play Tottenham here at Old Trafford," Maguire added.
