On Monday, December 2, 2019, Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed officially opened the second edition of the Copa Coca-Cola Africa Tournament at the Mpesa Foundation Academy Grounds in Thika, Kiambu County.

The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied by her counterparts, Prof. George Magoha of Education and Prof. Margret Kobia from Youth and Gender, who praised the organisers for giving Kenya the hosting rights for the second year running.

“Many successful footballers have been nurtured through these tournaments and as ministry we will continue to support all the organisers and ensure they have the best environment to work into,” said Amina Mohammed.

Prof. Kobia reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting sports in the country, stating that the administration had allocated Ksh 5.3 billion to the sports, culture, and arts department in the current year’s budget.

Prof. Magoha also spoke about the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC), saying it would spur sports growth in the country by identifying and nurturing talent.

The Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Under-16 champions Serani Boys are carrying a sense of duty for the hosts at the championship featuring countries from diverse Confederation of African Football (CAF) zones.
