On December 1, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen revealed that he used his position as the majority leader in the Senate to defend the name of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i from the Ruaraka land saga.

According to Murkomen, he saved Matiang'i from the land saga, which had placed his job opportunity at stake, and he is now accusing the CS of being arrogant and lecturing Deputy President William Ruto's allies carelessly.

Speaking on December 1, Murkomen stated, 'You can even go and check the Senate's Hansard, you will find that I saved him from that case. I did my best and defended your name. This is because I remembered that we had come from far as colleagues…doing consultancy jobs before he became CS. It is unfortunate that after landing this job, he has become arrogant and he now thinks he can lecture us in whatever way he wants,'

Murkomen was responding to a passionate speech given by Matiang'i during his tour in Kirinyaga county on November 29, where he refuted claims that he was working with top government officials to suppress allies of DP Ruto.

Matiang'i had stated, 'Myself and Kibicho were given this work by President Uhuru Kenyatta…we love this work and we enjoy working with each other. I must, however, set the record clear that we are not politicians and we are not going to entertain monkey business from some people. We were given work by Uhuru. If he says we turn right, we submit to that order and we follow that path until he issues another command,'
