On December 2, 2019, Inspector Sabina Kerubo, the deputy officer in charge of Ugunja, was arraigned at the Siaya Law Courts in connection with the brutal murder of Star Newspaper journalist Erick Oloo.

Chief Inspector of police Sabina Kerubo appeared before Siaya Principal Magistrate James Ong'ondo but did not take a plea, as the prosecution requested more time to complete investigations into the matter.

Magistrate Ong'ondo ordered that Kerubo be held at Siaya Police Station for 14 days.

Five people have been arrested in connection with Oloo's killing, including two brothers, Victor Ogola Luta and Franklin Joel Luta, who were detained for 11 days pending conclusion of investigations.

Two more suspects, including Kerubo's daughter and househelp, are yet to be arraigned.

On November 21, Erick Oloo's body was found in Inspector Kerubo's house.
