On September 22, Chetan Vyas, the Managing Director of Rai Cement, was brutally murdered in his bedroom. The incident occurred in Njoro, Nakuru county.

According to detectives, the suspects used a rope to strangle Vyas after tying his hands and legs. The killers gained access to the house through the roof.

Three more suspects linked to the murder have been arrested in Njoro. The suspects are Julius Odundo Jowi, a 35-year-old carpenter who worked at Rai Cement Company, Joseph Mureithi, a 34-year-old former security guard at Comply Company in Nakuru, and Steve Odhiambo, a 25-year-old operator at the same company.

Detectives have recovered an axe suspected to be the murder weapon, clothes worn by the suspects during the incident, two mobile phones used to communicate at the scene, an iron box, and a briefcase belonging to the deceased.

On October 5, 2019, five other suspects who worked as loading supervisors at Rai Cement Company were arrested. However, they were later released after the prosecution failed to produce evidence linking them to the murder.

Three other suspects have been charged with the murder of Vyas. Daniel Kibet Ruto, Nicholas Michael Mibei, and Hillary Cheruiyot Kemboi all denied the charges.
