On December 1, 2019, a daring rescue mission was carried out by the Kenya Police Airwing in Thika, saving a man who had been stranded at 14 Falls for four days.
The man, identified as Vincent Musila, a fisherman, had been stuck on a small island in the Athi River after his canoe was swept away by the rising waters.
Thika Town Member of Parliament Patrick Wainaina reached out to the police for help, and the Airwing department responded promptly, flying a helicopter in bad weather to rescue Musila.
Locals had attempted to save Musila but were unable to do so, prompting them to seek alternative help.
As the water levels continued to rise, Musila waited eagerly for the helicopter to arrive, and he was airlifted to safety.
On social media, Kenyans praised the Kenya Police Airwing for their bravery and quick response, using hashtags #ServiceWithDignity and #UtumishiKwaWote.
