On December 2, 2019, a Marsabit town businessman, Soke Ote, threatened to evict Marsabit Governor Muhamad Ali from his property over unpaid rent arrears amounting to Sh900,000.
According to Ote, the county administration rented a residential house for the governor but had failed to honour the agreement by defaulting on payment.
Yabi Construction Company, the landlord, had issued a press statement indicating its intention to haul the devolved unit to court over nonpayment of Sh2.2 million dues contracted house rent.
Documents obtained from the Registrar of Companies by Ote indicate that a chief officer in the county government, who was also a director of Daasanach Construction Company, applied to cease being a director on February 9, 2018, and consequently transferred 100 shares that she possessed at the firm to another entity.
It is alleged that the chief officer may have influenced the diversion of the payment, which was supposed to be deposited in Ote's account but was instead processed and deposited in an account belonging to Daasanach Construction Company limited.
