On December 2, 2019, Kenyan Senator Millicent Omanga made headlines after building a metal-roofed house for a widow in Mathare, Nairobi.

The widow, identified as Mama Njuguna, had been living in poverty since her husband's death.

According to Omanga's Facebook post, Mama Njuguna had been struggling to make ends meet, and her children were in dire need of a stable home.

"The house of Mama Njuguna collapsed due to poor construction, she has been struggling to find food for her family, her husband passed away after a long illness, I heard it was good to build at least this house and also provide her with a gas cylinder," Omanga wrote on Facebook.

Omanga also promised to open a vegetable business for Mama Njuguna in the near future.

The move was widely praised by Kenyans, with many thanking Omanga for her kindness and generosity towards the widow.

However, some critics accused Omanga of building a substandard house, saying she could have done better.
