Teachers in Kenya are bracing themselves for another round of transfers, with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) set to start fresh transfers in December.

According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, only teachers who are sick or about to retire will be spared from the transfers.

Speaking on the upcoming transfers, Macharia emphasized the importance of continuity in teaching and learning, stating that the replacement of teachers who exit service ensures that learners are not left unattended.

However, the transfers have been met with opposition from teachers, who claim that they are discriminatory and punitive.

It's worth noting that the TSC has implemented a new policy requiring newly-recruited primary school teachers to commit to serving for at least five years in the counties where they are posted before seeking a transfer to their preferred regions.

As reported in Biznakenya in 2018, the TSC had previously transferred 3,094 teachers, with only 360 appealing against the transfers.
