On December 2, 2019, Posta Kenya and Safaricom joined forces to introduce a digital postal service aimed at serving more than 5 million customers across the country.
The move leverages the growing trend of digitization and online delivery of goods and services, while Posta Kenya relies on its logistical capabilities and extensive network of post office branches.
With 625 postal outlets spread across the country and Safaricom boasting 34 million customers, the partnership is poised to tap into the vast potential of the Kenyan market.
Customers will pay a monthly fee of Ksh300 to receive their products at any post office of their choice.
The growth of e-commerce has led to the establishment of international firms such as Alibaba and Amazon in Kenya, with data from Posta Kenya showing that Alibaba's AliExpress accounts for over 62% of deliveries.
Safaricom customers can register for a digital postal box linked to their mobile number by visiting mpost.co.ke or dialing 234#.
