December 2, 2019, marked a significant day for the people of Kibish in Turkana county, Kenya, as Officer Sammy Ondimu Ngare penned an emotional farewell letter to the community he had grown to love.

Ngare, who was posted in the area in 2017, took the opportunity to create great memories with the villagers, both old and young, and noted that they were the complete opposite of the picture painted by his friends.

He narrated how he was warned by friends and family about the unfriendly people and insecurity in the county, but instead, he found a community that welcomed him with open arms.

Ngare highlighted the plight of Mama Asinyen, who he helped build a decent house following the help from his friends on Facebook. According to the officer, that was his greatest achievement.

He also shared an incident that almost ruined his relationship with the locals, but after convincing them on the importance of educating girls, they finally agreed to allow him to take their girls to school.

Ngare's emotional letter has left many Kenyans with a change of heart towards uniformed officers, and he now looks forward to the next part of his assignment as he prepares to serve more Kenyans.
