On Monday morning, residents of Fedha estate in Nairobi took to the streets to protest the deplorable state of roads in their area.
As part of their demonstration, locals lit bonfires in the middle of the road and engaged in running battles with police for most of the morning.
According to James Mwaura, a local resident, the roads have been in a poor condition for a long time, and efforts to reach out to the authorities for assistance have been unsuccessful.
“The roads are in a very poor condition and efforts to reach out to the leaders to assist in improving them have always hit the wall,” he said.
Another resident, Margret Omambia, shared a similar experience, stating that she stopped using her car due to the constant mechanical problems it developed from driving on the potholed roads.
“I stopped using my car because it usually developed mechanical problems and I was always at the garage all because of these roads,” she said.
The residents also raised concerns over the drainage system within the estate, calling on the county government to intervene.
“If they fail to do as we are saying then we shall go on demonstrating every week until something is done,” said Felix Kimani, a local resident.
