Sammy Ondimu Ngare, a 39-year-old police officer, joined the force in 2003 and was deployed in Kibish, Turkana, in 2017. Initially, his friends warned him about the village's reputation for insecurity and unfriendly residents. However, Ngare's experience was vastly different.

Upon arrival, he was met with hospitality and warmth from the locals, who eventually became like family to him. Ngare's charitable organization, MaxFacta Rescue, helped enroll 11 girls in school, and he looks forward to adopting them.

Ngare's emotional letter to the people of Kibish has left many in awe. He recalled the memorable moments he shared with the villagers, including learning the local dialect and traditional stories. The elders even taught him about the rich culture and traditions of the Turkana people.

Ngare's relationship with the locals was not without its challenges. He faced resistance when he advised them to treat boys and girls equally, but eventually, they came to understand his intentions.

As Ngare prepares to leave Kibish, he is filled with a mix of emotions. He will miss the uplifting moments he shared with local elders and the children he helped. Ngare's story is a testament to the power of human connection and the impact one person can have on a community.
