Two police officers have been arrested in Nairobi's Eastleigh area after allegedly attempting to carjack a taxi driver.

The incident occurred at around 1 am when the officers, who were in civilian clothes, jumped into the taxi and ordered the driver to take them to Pangani in the city.

However, on the way, the officers forced the driver to stop and later took control of the car, with the driver being forced to take the back seat.

But the new driver lost control of the car before it crashed at a roundabout barrier in Eastleigh.

Witnesses said the two officers tried to escape from the scene but were intercepted by officers who were on patrol and members of the public who responded to the screams of the driver.

The two officers were later found to be from Quarry police post in Embakasi and Muthaiga police station respectively.

They have since been sacked.
