On December 2, 2019, a shocking case unfolded in a Makadara court, where a 28-year-old househelp, Ruth Khaecha, stunned the court by denying stealing Sh1.3 million from her employer, Paul Mwangi.
According to the Star, Khaecha claimed that the money was payment for good sex she provided to Mwangi. However, she disputed the alleged amount, stating it was only Sh800,000.
Khaecha testified that she started working for Mwangi on November 25, 2018, and after working for one month, Mwangi started making advances on her. She claimed that she developed feelings for him and that he promised to help her after she shared her difficult life story.
She further testified that whenever Mwangi was at home and his wife was away, they would have sex. On January 3, Mwangi came home early with a bag containing envelopes with money, and Khaecha claimed that he showed her the money and they then had wild sex.
She stated, 'I asked him what was in the envelopes when he started caressing me and he said it was money. Then I took one of the envelopes and confirmed that.'
She also claimed, 'I played my role well in bed. It was not the first time but this time I decided to give him perfect service like never before, as I was aware it was going to be a life-turning moment for me and my children.'
However, the prosecution presented CCTV footage showing Khaecha leaving with a bag, and the court also heard that she bought land worth Sh570,000, gave her father Sh500,000, and had Sh70,000 in her purse.
Makadara Chief Magistrate Heston Nyaga found Khaecha guilty of stealing from Mwangi and ordered that the land she bought be sold to recover the cash stolen from her former employer. He also sentenced Ruth Khaecha to three years in prison.
