Former FKF president Sam Nyamweya has expressed concern over the current state of the Kenyan Premier League, which he believes is on the brink of collapse.
Speaking in an interview with Standard Sports on March 23rd, 2015, Nyamweya faulted Ambrose Rachier's silence and the federation's lack of moral authority for the league's woes.
The former FKF president noted that the league is dying and that unless a miracle happens, it will not be having a KPL in the next few months.
He attributed the problem to a lack of leadership, citing the failure of the KPL chairman and the FKF president to sit down and find solutions to the serious issues affecting the league.
Nyamweya also pointed out that the KPL and FKF have not been talking sufficiently with each other, with only two or three joint executive meetings held in the last four years.
He suggested that the government through the National Sports Fund is the ideal partner to help the KPL clubs, and that each club can be advanced up to Sh30 million directly without going through the KPL.
However, he noted that this cannot happen now because of a lack of leadership, and that the person who is supposed to do that is the FKF president, who is having serious issues with the government regarding accountability of millions of shillings advanced to them.
Nyamweya also suggested that the KPL and National Super League clubs have a right to sit down and ask the government to help out, and that they can plead their case with the Principal Secretary for Sports and the National Sports Fund to help.
