On November 29, 2019, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i addressed a gathering in Kirinyaga County, where he criticized officials who frequently criticize the government.

Matangi's comments were directed at officials affiliated with the Tangatanga group, which is associated with Deputy President William Ruto.

"I would like to remind politicians who claim that Karanja Kibicho is manipulating us that our role as government officials is to serve the public, as instructed by President Uhuru Kenyatta," Matiang'i said.

However, Ruto responded to Matiang'i's comments, saying that the Interior CS should focus on his work rather than making personal attacks.

"I would like to ask government officials, including those who have been appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, to stop making personal attacks and focus on their work," Ruto said.

"You are working for a government that was elected by the people. Do not think that you are above the law or that you are working for a big office," Ruto added.
