Italian champions Juventus dropped points for only the third time this season, drawing 2-2 against Sassuolo in Turin on Sunday.
Leonardo Bonucci gave Juventus the lead in the first half, but Sassuolo winger Jeremie Boga equalized just three minutes later with an exquisite finish.
Francesco Caputo put Sassuolo in front after the break, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up and an error by goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot midway through the second half, ending his four-match goal drought and denying Sassuolo their first ever win in this fixture.
‘We put ourselves in difficulty, we lost our heads in the first half,’ Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri told Sky Italia.
‘Every time we lost the ball we were wide open. After going behind we played at a good level for 40 minutes and could have even won the match.
‘The games after a Champions League week are always difficult because of a lack of energy.’
Despite being heavy favorites, Juventus struggled to maintain their lead, with individual errors costing them dearly in the second half.
Matthijs de Ligt’s clearance fell to Caputo, who volleyed the ball past Buffon to put Sassuolo in front.
However, Ronaldo had a golden chance to score his first club goal in over a month when Filippo Romagna tripped Paulo Dybala, and he made no mistake by blasting a powerful shot into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
Juventus pushed for the winner, but Sassuolo held on to end a seven-match losing run against the Turin giants.
