Published on December 1, 2019, New Orleans police are investigating a shooting that left 11 people wounded on Canal Street early on Sunday.

According to the police, the shooting occurred around 3:21 a.m. near the scene of the Bayou Classic, an annual football game between two historically black universities at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

Officers reported hearing gunfire and found multiple individuals struck by gunfire, with no officers injured.

The police initially reported 10 people had been hurt, but later said an additional victim had walked into a hospital for treatment.

Two of the victims are in critical condition, and the police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting.

Police said a person was detained near the scene, but their possible involvement in the shooting remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made.

The Louisiana State Police and federal officials are assisting the New Orleans police in the investigation.

This is not the first time a shooting has occurred after the Bayou Classic. In 2015, a shooting left one man dead, and in 2016, one man was killed and nine others were injured in a shooting on Bourbon Street after the game.
