On a rainy Sunday, Western Stima secured a crucial point in the Kenyan Premier League, holding Sofapaka to a 1-1 draw at Moi Stadium in Kisumu. The match, played in difficult weather conditions, saw both teams give their all, but ultimately, it was the home team that managed to salvage a point.
Sammy Imbuye gave Sofapaka the lead in the 48th minute, capitalizing on a mistake by Western Stima's goalkeeper, Odhiambo. However, Odhiambo made amends in the 86th minute, scoring from the spot to level the scores.
Western Stima's coach, Salim Babu, praised his team's performance, saying, 'This was quite a tough match because Sofapaka has for a long time been a stubborn opponent. But the heavy downpour highly contributed to the results because the field became unbearable at some point.'
Sofapaka's coach, John Baraza, expressed his disappointment at not getting the win, saying, 'We came for a win and it was evident because we dominated the match from the start but the penalty cost us. I'm happy we gave Stima a chase for their money despite having home advantage.'
