Senior Police Officer Dies Shortly After Arriving in Kenya ¶
Inspector General Monica Githaiga, a senior police officer who led the operation to counter the DusitD2 hotel attack in Nairobi, died shortly after arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) from Japan on November 30, 2019.
According to reports, Githaiga had been on a trip to Japan and had started experiencing severe headaches while in Dubai. When he arrived at JKIA, he was rushed to a clinic for treatment, but unfortunately, he died in a critical condition.
His body was taken to the Chiromo Mortuary in Nairobi, where it was awaiting post-mortem examination.
Githaiga was the officer-in-charge of the counter-terrorism unit that led the operation to counter the DusitD2 hotel attack in Nairobi on January 15, 2019, which resulted in the loss of 12 lives.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Githaiga had received KSh 9 million from South Africa and had transferred it through M-Pesa and a bank in the Eastleigh area.
