December 1, 2019, marked a significant day for Kenyan football as Masoud Juma, the Harambee Stars striker, finally apologized to Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards fans for his hurtful comments made two years ago.
At the time, Juma, who was then playing for Kariobangi Sharks, claimed that he could not join either of the two clubs as they were 'small teams.' His remarks sparked outrage among fans, who felt disrespected by his comments.
"I can't tell where I will be next year because I still have a contract with Sharks. But if I am to move from Sharks, it won't be to join AFC Leopards or Gor Mahia. It will be to join a bigger team," Juma was quoted by the Nation in December 2017.
However, Juma's remarks did not go down well with fans, and he has since struggled to settle at any club, playing for four teams in two years.
But in a surprise move, Juma took to social media to pen an emotional apology to the local Kenyan fans, saying, "A day like this two years ago I had a misunderstanding with fans especially from Gor mahia and AFC. It was a bad show for sure but nothing has lost," he posted on his official Facebook page.
"Today I just want to ask for their forgiveness from the bottom of my heart. It happens in football," he submitted.
