Monica Wambui Githaiga, a senior sleuth with the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), died on December 1, 2019, at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.

According to police reports, Githaiga had been returning from Japan where she had been receiving training. She had complained of feeling unwell in Dubai and was attended to before boarding her flight to Nairobi.

Upon arrival at JKIA, Githaiga started complaining of dizziness and chest pains, and was rushed to the Port Health Clinic. Unfortunately, efforts to save her life were unsuccessful.

Her body was moved to the Chiromo Mortuary in Nairobi.
