On December 1, 2019, a devastating bus crash occurred in northern Tunisia, claiming the lives of 22 people and leaving 21 others injured.
The bus, carrying Tunisian tourists, was traveling through the Ain Snoussi region when it plunged over a cliff, according to the interior ministry.
"The vehicle had fallen into a ravine after crashing through an iron barrier," the ministry stated on its Facebook page.
Fortunately, all those aboard were Tunisians, and the injured were transferred to nearby hospitals, the interior ministry reported.
The bus was headed from Tunis towards the picturesque mountain town of Ain Draham, a popular autumn destination for tourists.
According to the World Health Organization, Tunisia had the second-worst traffic death rate per capita in North Africa in 2015, behind war-torn Libya.
