On December 1, 2019, a shocking incident unfolded in Nairobi's Eastleigh Estate, where two police officers attempted to carjack an unsuspecting Uber driver.
According to detectives, the constables, identified as Ali Shukri Galgalo from Quarry Police Post and Abdikadir Daiwo of Muthaiga Police Station, called an Uber driver to take them to Pangani. However, when the driver arrived, they turned against him, forcing him into the backseat and driving towards Eastleigh.
The taxi driver survived the ordeal after the vehicle crashed along the way. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations revealed that the suspects were arrested after the vehicle crashed and stalled at Kilimanjaro roundabout.
The two suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged tomorrow. This incident comes on the heels of a series of cases involving police officers in crime, including bank robbery, robbery at M-Pesa shops, and teaming up with thugs to terrorize civilians.
Notably, a report by The Sunday Standard on October 6, 2019, revealed that at least 625 cases involving police officers in crime were reported in the last 10 months.
