On September 22, 2019, Andear Mwangi, a 35-year-old Nigerian woman, passed away at the Nairobi South Hospital due to a long-term liver condition.
Her husband, Charles Emedo, allegedly tried to transport her body to her hometown without the family's consent, sparking a heated dispute at the Umash Funeral Home on Saturday.
The family of the deceased, led by her mother Lydia Mwathathi, claimed that Emedo was unknown to them and had never visited them, making it impossible for him to bury their daughter without their consent.
“The man has never visited us and we are not aware that he was the one who was living with our daughter,” Lydia Mwathathi said.
Emedo, however, denied the allegations, stating that he had lived with Andear for the past nine years and had three children with her.
The matter was presented in court on October 23, but Emedo did not appear, citing advice from his lawyers. The two parties are now set to attend a court hearing on December 5, 2019.
Police had insisted that the body of the deceased would not be moved until the matter was heard and determined by the court.
