Published on December 1, 2019, a woman was arrested at Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Nairobi after attempting to steal a baby.

According to detectives, Irene Syombua has been linked to a series of child theft cases at the hospital.

Police discovered a dead baby wrapped in a sack in the boot of her car, suggesting she intended to swap it with a new-born baby when she was caught.

Syombua will be arraigned in court on Monday.

This incident is the latest in a string of child theft cases at the hospital.

Just last month, another woman was arrested for stealing a baby from the same hospital.

She had attempted to escape with the baby by putting it in a backpack while the mother was processing her discharge.

Earlier in July, a childless nurse, Sheila Adhiambo Aluoch, was arrested for allegedly attempting to steal her friend's newborn baby.
