Published on December 1, 2019, Nairobi's food scene is rapidly evolving with the emergence of new restaurants and bars every month.

Latin American-inspired eateries such as Fonda NBO and Mercado, and East Asian restaurants like Cheka and Pan Asian Yao, have contributed significantly to this growth in recent years.

INTI, a restaurant located on the 21st floor of One Africa Place in Westlands, is a unique addition to Nairobi's culinary landscape. It specialises in Nikkei cuisine, a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian flavours.

Nikkei cuisine originated over 100 years ago when Japanese immigrants arrived in Peru and adapted their cooking techniques to incorporate local ingredients.

The restaurant's decor is inspired by Japanese culture, with red emperor maple leaves hanging from beams above the tables and a forest of bamboo stems above the bar.

The tables are positioned against the glass, offering stunning views of the city. INTI's website describes the dining experience as 'centred around the finest Nikkei cuisine.'

Our dinner at INTI began with the Tofu Croquetas, followed by the Veg Maki: the Double Queso and the Truffle Roll. We also tried the Nikkei Tofu and indulged in a dessert.

The prices are steep, with most mains above Sh1,400, but the food is exceptional and beautifully presented. The restaurant also offers a good cocktail menu, celebrating pisco, Peru's national drink.
